Con_'s Journal

She (My Wife) & I Uploaded: 10/29/09 5:09 PM GMT

Image: She (My Wife) & I

Yes... my wife and I (for over 42 years I have fooled her into thinking I was 'good enough'/'better than that for which she could exchange me'!) This was her choice of image for my Journal page. Self-portrait taken in Nanaimo, BC (Vancouver Island)... tripod & self-timer. I have deleted the other!                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Ahhh! Eventually I'll get some Journal text in here! Like a little now... I am not a photographer by any stretch of anyone's imagination... I simply enjoy taking certain photos and definitely enjoy collecting those that appeal to me. One thing I know... I know what I like! That does not mean I can't learn new tricks... in photography. It just means that I must agree with at least some of what I am told. You are most welcome to give me direction! :o)                                                                                                                           Our height difference is exaggerated with me standing on the upper portion of a hill slope! :o)

Hello Con..I appreciate very much your comments about my photos for the Costco Contest...it is called "Give us Your Best Shot" and all they ask for is any of our own photos that we feel is a good shot from things such as vacations, a person, something exotic or something ordinary..I know that leaves a lot of room. They do judge on sharpness too...but other than that it's whatever we each decide. I just wanted to get some professional thoughts from the people on caedes, I value their opinions a lot. But the FINAL decision is the one I will make. It's a nice fun and interesting thing to take part in for me, and of course besides the notoriety of Costco using my photo is great along with the $ prize..thanx for your interest..I will let everyone know what happens..Verena

Hi Con. Thank you for leaving that idea on my picture (Victor). I brought up c-index ideas a way long time ago (when they first switched to the voting booth method of voting). But I think my idea(s) weren't popular, or really that they mattered at all. Can't say I blame them for hearing it as just general whining. If I were a better photographer or contributer, perhaps it might have carried more weight. But they have happy users with more joining, so what do I know. Nice gallery, by the way! cheers, Quiet

Borders are a debatable thing so I am glad this one was acceptable :)
I often add a border purely to bring the image up to a standard desktop size. Other times I try to compliment the image which I would be the first to admit is not always successful.

Hey Con

Thanks for the thoughtful comments on Good Coffee & a Good Read. It is great feedback and most welcomed. The hooker hose is out of the picture because purley it is tall, I could have got the hose intersection in but would have spoiled the lower composition of the books. I had turned the coffe pot several directions and decided on the spout pointing out because of the visual concentration in the middle was strong. The spout creates a bit of tension in the photo leading the eye out to the left put you get pulled in by the titles of the books, a thgi is the first thjing most people will read.

I am glad you have taken the time to look at the photo and to have this sort of feedback it is very thoughtfull. Thankyou.

Dear Con,

Thank you for your comment on 'The unfortunate'. I realize now that I should have clarified my intentions with this picture. It was never my meaning to make this an appealing picture, but rather a picture that gives you food for thought, which apparently works. My intention was to depict the ugly behind the beautiful: the Plaza Mayor is a very busy and beautiful place, but there are also many homeless people who sleep and live there and who we generally don't want to be confronted with, especially when we're on holiday.

I've actually got another picture of the same scene - which I plan to upload later - that shows people dining on the Plaza, while this guy is sleeping in his box behind the pillar. Stuff to think about, but not necessarily nice to put on your desktop.

Hi Con. Sorry for taking so long to reply to your comments on my posting Solitude. Holidays etc. (I'm actually trying extremely hard to turn life into one long holiday since I retired!). I take on board both your own and Les's observations on this image. I did actually crop it almost exactly as Les did, forgote about the crop and posted the original. Ah well. rules are there to be broken hey!
Take care.
Barry.
